The College Playoff Management Committee (CFP) unanimously voted to change seedling policies and farewell to 12-team playoff games for the 2025-26 season.

Changed the first round

This new policy guarantees five top -ranked conference champions in a playoff game, but will no longer include four top -notch champions. This 12 -team bracket is now seeded directly based on the final rank of the CFP selection committee and the four teams with the highest rank will receive the first round. This new policy guarantees five top -ranked conference champions in a playoff game, but will no longer include four top -notch champions.

If one or more of the five top -ranked conference championships are in the 12th category, the teams or teams move to the 12th Seed, Eleventh, and so on.

For the reference, in the 2024-25 season, Oregon (1), Georgia (2), Boys (3) and Arizona (4) were the top four champions of the conference. As a result, the four people won the first round of the 12 -team playoffs, the top four, and a farewell week.

CFP policy that remains

• Ranking teams will continue by a selection committee.

• Teams play in the first place in the CFP with 5-12 and the higher grains host the low beads either on the campus or on other sites designated by the higher seed institute (No. 12 in No. 5, No. 7, No. 10 in No. 7, and No. 9 in No. 8).

• Four teams with the highest ranking day in the ranking order and the current contract bowl relationships are dedicated to the quarter -finals of the playoffs (for example: If the team is the highest rank of BIG TEN, that team will be devoted to Rose Bowl).

• Geography No. 1 receives preferential location for the assignment of the semi -finals of the playoffs.

What they say:

Rich Clark, executive director of the College’s Football Playoffs, spoke about these policy changes and why they implemented them.

“After evaluating the first year of the 12 -team playoffs, the CFP Management Committee felt in the interest of the game to make the arrangement,” Clark said. “This change continues to provide guaranteed access to the playoffs by rewarding teams for winning its conference championships, but it also allows us to build a post -season bracket to identify the best performance in the whole season.”

In the case of college football playoffs

College Football Playoff (CFP) is an event that crows the national champion of college football. The CFP Selection Committee will win the top 25 teams at the end of the season, and the 12 -team bracket based on the final rank directly seeded and the top four with the highest rank. These teams are in the 5-12 ranks playing in the first stage of the CFP and the higher grains host the lower seeds either on the campus or on other sites designated by the institute.
